Sea Fishing
Clare is home to some of the richest waters in Ireland and Europe and plays home to a large range of species. Clare is renowned for sea fishing. From April through to November, Mackerel are abundant, and you can also find white fish, bottom feeders, conger eels, and even sharks. There are many options to charter a boat in Carrigaholt, Kilbaha and Kilkee, all just over an hour’s drive from The Shannon Springs Hotel.
Lake Fishing
The lakes, rivers and streams of Lough Derg are rich in salmon, brown trout and a wide variety of coarse fish including pike & bream. With almost 40 lakes, the Lakelands of East Clare are a true haven for the avid angler. The Shannon waterway provides both game and coarse angling. Guests can access Lough Derg by road, which is less than on hours drive away.
Bass Fishing
Bass fishing in Clare can be enjoyed on a recreational basis, the species was placed on the protected list in the 90s, but guests can still enjoy this pastime along the Shannon Estuary and shale beaches such as Doolin, located less than an hour away from our hotel.
Mackerel Fishing
Mackerel can be found in abundance in Clare and is one of the most common species of fish caught on fishing trips off Loop Head. Loop Head is the most popular destination in Clare for mackerel fishing with the Bridges of Ross. Mackerel can only be caught in Ireland from April till early November, so book your stay with us while they are in season. Bridges of Ross is over an hour’s drive from Shannon, a perfect day trip for the whole family.
